Room Inspiration: Decor That Inspires

Decor can motivate, beckon and attract

I’m forever committed to the things that bring me joy! Designing, creating, making, teaching, reading, writing, growing, meditating and so much more have all been done in this little space. Last year I redesigned this corner nook in my house and dedicated it to my inner joy. A space that would invite me to slow down, quiet my thoughts and connect more to the source within. I knew surrounding myself with comfort, ambiance and beauty would do the trick.

So with the help of my favorite color pink, colorful pillows, soft velvet curtains, cozy blankets, inspiring artwork and scented candles, plus the sunshine pouring in, it became a welcoming and uplifting space doing exactly what I wanted it to do: inspire me to slow down. This quiet corner has become a place of peace and charm, rejuvenating me among the beautiful chaos of life with kids.

It’s my hope that reading this inspires you to use decor that speaks personally to you, inviting whatever you want or desire in your life. Decor can beautifully motivate, beckon and attract your deepest desires, acting as a reminder of what’s on your heart.

I discovered this year that designing this space is a work in progress, much like life itself. We are always learning, changing and growing, discovering more about who we are and what we like. I’ve since swapped out the curtains for lavender rose colored ones (still soft velvet!) and I’m still playing around with the pillow color combinations. I’ve noticed colors play a big role in my mood and I keep feeling my way into this space, adding and removing things to see how they make me feel. I still need to add back in all my meditation space items that bring me joy like my beloved books on personal and spiritual growth, my porcelain pale pink incense burner and my cake stands I use as intention setters but I’m giving myself time to feel into how I want them to be displayed. Maybe floating shelves on the side wall or a little bookshelf next to the couch, something where my favorite items will all be within arm’s reach, giving me the opportunity to grab a beloved book and re-read an inspiring passage or quote on a whim. I haven’t figured out that design piece yet mainly because I haven’t found it. I’m waiting to discover that piece of furniture when I am out and about and I unexpectedly find it waiting for me. That’s the thing about designing your home — give it grace, give it time, to find the special things that speak and inspire you.

One of my favorite things to do in this space is to be with my own thoughts, to create and think about what I want out of life. A space where I can tap into and hear my heart speak. Life with two boys can be loud and life as a mom is demanding, so having this special space is such a gift.

My best advice for room inspiration is to ask yourself, what’s important to you, what do you love, what would inspire you to connect more to the things that would bring you more joy in your life? The artwork, colors, textures, and items that you place around the room can serve as daily reminders of your intention for what you want to call into your life. This year I promised myself I would take more time for me, more time connecting to the things that bring me joy and this space inspires that personal priority.

What have you promised yourself this year? What are the things that bring you joy? Can you visualize a space, a nook, or a corner that you can redesign and call your own? Even the smallest space can work wonders on your mood and motivation if it’s designed around all the things that you personally love and want to invite into your life.
